 Works great, can't beat the price July 23, 2010

After trying unsuccessfully to install an internal CD-writer (having worn out the one that came with my pc), I took a chance on this "plug and play" external model. And I'm really glad I did. It's so easy to use. There's one USB cable for data and one to power the unit. It comes with a device driver disc, but my computer recognized the device immediately and I didn't even need the disc.
What else to say? It's a CD-writer. It's sleek and compact, and works perfectly. It is a tad noisy at times when reading a disc, but it doesn't bother me at all. For such a great price, I think this one's hard to beat.

This DVD drive arrived in a thin piece of cardboard (similar to what books are delivered in). NO box. NO padding or protection whatsoever.
It was in a plastic ziplock bag. Also, don't expect a "brand new" drive. What I received is clearly a generic used or refurbished DVD drive. The outside casing is gouged and scratched and looks YEARS old. The parts inside the tray looked scratched and used as well. Unless my order was an anomaly, this company is apparently trying to pass off used or refurbed gear as new. If that bothers you....stay away from this. I'm sending this scratched up thing back.

This product seems to be working perfectly for me. My cat has knocked it over a few times and it still hasn't given up on me or anything about a month into using it. I use it for my netbook and for my tower and it works lovely for both.

I have a neighbor - Major in the Marines, a major MA in Computer Science and he, as I, cannot download the DVD External Slimline on my computer. I have no way of finding out directions from the source or from Amazon. Will I order again equipment? No.

Bought for an HP mini 2133, mainly to convert CDs to MP3 and have as a backup for our car's portable DVD. It was working properly as soon as we connected. It is small, light and easy to carry and connect so we are also using it on our other notebook and PC as 2nd drive.
